How Calan works
The mode of action is still under research, but it has been found that its anti-anginal action is due to vasodilation of the main branch of coronary arteries. It also reduces oxygen consumption by lowering peripheral resistance. Verapamil also manages calcium channels by stopping the influx of calcium ions into the cells. This controls the electrical activity and reduces heart rate as well as control the rhythm. Hypertension control is brought about by lowering of systemic vascular blockade. Being SR formulation, it has a sustained action for longer period of time.
